Dental Sedation From Your Dentists in Hamilton

At Sagewood Dental Care in Hamilton, we understand that dental fear and anxiety is an incredibly common issue affecting many patients. So common, in fact, that an estimated 13.8% of people worldwide experience it. That’s why we’ve dedicated ourselves to providing the compassionate, empathetic care you need to follow through with receiving the dental cleanings, checkups, and treatments necessary to keep your smile healthy for life.

What Types Of Dental Sedation Do We Offer?

We’re happy to offer our patients two types of conscious sedation, which enables them to remain awake and responsive while receiving care.

Nitrous oxide: Otherwise known as laughing gas, this form of sedation can be helpful for patients who are nervous about receiving a filling, cleaning, etc. Patients who choose this level of sedation should arrive at least 10 minutes before their appointment for the sedation process (which takes approximately five minutes) to take effect. They should also not eat or drink anything two hours prior to their appointment.

Oral sedation: This sedation option can be ideal for a variety of treatments and procedures that will last longer than an hour. Patients cannot eat or drink anything (though medications are permissible) for six hours leading up to their appointment, and this type of sedation needs to be administered an hour before a procedure. Because patients may feel lingering effects for up to 24 hours after use, it’s also a requirement that transportation is arranged to and from the appointment. All strenuous activities should be avoided for 24 hours.
